SAILING, SWIMMING AND SANCTUARY AT STANBOROUGH PARK LAKES

There is a total of 15 cherished National Parks in the UK alone. This is because we need beauty and nature as much as we need our daily bread. We need a place to strengthen and rejuvenate our bodies while playing and exploring. The park is a perfect place to park your problems and embrace the healing and sweetness of Mother nature. I know just the place to satisfy these needs! It is a beautiful countryside oasis, Stanborough Park, (often called Stanborough Lakes because two lakes adorn this scenic landscape, the North (Boating) and South (Sailing) Lakes).

Stanborough Lakes cover an area of 126 acres, nestled on the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City. This park is artificial, emerging as a phoenix from an old stone quarry site. Although planning for this gift to us all was under consideration since 1949, it was not commissioned until 1970. One major highlight of your visit, before we turn our gaze to the lakes, is its 2.9-kilometre circular walk. Visitors use this loop trail for a gentle stroll, hiking, trail running and other nature-based escapades. Sights and sounds on the circular walk are invigorating, with many birds to impress with their plumage and song.

At the heart of this park are, of course, its lakes. To the north is the 11.3-acre Boating Lake. The lake is quite shallow, a plunge of no less than 3 feet. You can hire a rowing boat for as little as £7.50 to explore this body of water’s beauty and other treats that the natural habitat offers to beat the blues. Other interesting gems you need to watch out for are the several islands in the lake. Though fishing is not allowed here, a trek is always on the cards.

One lake is fun, but two? This is surely the cat’s cream! Now, there is the Sailing Lake, situated in the Southern wing of Stanborough Park. While you may not find islands in its tranquil calm, it is wider and deeper than the Boating Lake, offering a variety of amusements since fishing and wading is allowed here. Many other fun-based activities to be enjoyed include sailing, kayaking, canoeing, open water swimming and windsurfing. A haven for maritime meanderers and lovers of open spaces alike.

Stanborough Park also has plenty of treks, parklands for picnics and games for the whole family. Hence, you can enjoy an exquisite day out with your loved ones. There are escapades and adventures for the little ones as well, with the children’s’ play area and bouncy castles.

But what is a cool hangout without food? Nibbles and snacks, along with a more substantial indulgence are available throughout the park. There is the Terranova Restaurant and a delightful Coffee Shop on the Southside. To the North, you can treat yourself to ice-creams, chocolate bars, and cold and hot drinks to revive the spirit.

The park is open all year round; seven days a week April to September, Monday to Friday from October to March. Located near Welwyn Garden City. Hertfordshire, AL8 6DF, England, United Kingdom, Stanborough Park is the ideal location for a post lockdown party and a wonderful breath of fresh air that we all need and deserve oh so much!
